Singer David Burke has lost his legal team as he faces murder charges in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Burke’s attorneys withdrew from the case after he pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors have charged Burke with first-degree murder, alleged lewd and lascivious sexual acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman says prosecutors are weighing whether to pursue the death penalty. The court is scheduled to hold another hearing on October 19.
Prosecutors allege Burke killed Rivas Hernandez to conceal their alleged sexual relationship and protect his budding music career.
