At a White Cross Project conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., South African farm-attack survivors and advocates shared personal stories and raised concerns about violence, minority rights and conditions in South Africa.
One survivor described the 2020 attack that killed her parents and sister on their farm. Other speakers argued that Afrikaners and other minorities face targeted violence and political discrimination, while calling attention to farm attacks, land policy and property rights.
The White Cross Project, organized by Lex Libertas and its partners, brought approximately 3,000 white crosses to Washington, D.C., each bearing the name of a person the organizers identify as a victim of a South African farm attack. South African government officials have disputed claims that farm attacks constitute racially motivated targeting, saying rural crime affects people across racial groups.
